St P was welsh. He was captured, sold into slavery, then bet over to mayo where he was worked like a mule for 6 or seven years. He had some dream that he was destined for europe so he walked 200 miles (  ) to the irish coast and escaped to Gaul (region of western europe made up of modern day france, switz, italy, belgium etc) There he studied religion for 10 years before returning to Eire to convert us Pagans to christians (this move was also apparently prompted by another one of his Magic dreams. Call me a skeptic but..... )
Apparently he wasnt that popular a chap. All the druids and hardcore pagans used to kick seven sortsa shite out of him and he was always being thrown in jail for his actions.
Anyways, he somehow managed to convert everyone in the country, and also build a zillion monasterys in his spare time.. single handedly.
Right im boring meself now at this stage so thats that.
